School for your children
Children aged 5 to 16 must go to school (compulsory education). Newcomers often start in a language class (newcomers class). You apply directly at a school nearby.

- Find a primary school (4–12 years) or secondary school nearby.
- For newcomers: ask about a language class or an international transition class (ISK).
- Register your child with their BSN and any school records from Syria.
- Ask about free school supplies, the school fund or a Stadspas (city pass).

- Go to parents' evenings; the school is happy to help.
- Ask the municipality about pupil transport if needed.
